The second in a series of cultural-culinary experiences inspired by Vanity Fair.
For the past century, Vanity Fair has been a cultural catalyst that provokes the popular dialogue, reflecting the tone and tastes of each era from the Jazz Age to the Digital Age. Inspired by its 100th anniversary, Vanity Fair has created Vanity Fair At the Table: a series of cultural-culinary experiences inspired by the magazine’s founding mission to “ignite a dinner party at 50 yards.”
The second in the Vanity Fair At the Table series, “The Decades” will present a modern interpretation of classic food from each decade of the past 100 years: the menu may include a reimagined baked casserole from the 1950s; the speakeasy appetizers du jour of the 20s; or the expertly crafted cocktails of the 1960s. Extraordinary food and drink reimagined for the decades by chef Michael Anthony (Gramercy Tavern) will be complemented by stunning images from one of the cornerstones of the magazine’s 100th anniversary celebration: a new book, Vanity Fair 100 Years, which showcases a century of personality and power, art and commerce, crisis and culture from the magazine’s inception in 1913, through the Jazz Age and the Depression, to its reincarnation in the boom-boom Reagan years, to the image-saturated Information Age of today.
Vanity Fair At the Table: “The Decades” will visually create a portrait of the past and the present, evoking the timeless, vibrant “café society” atmosphere that Vanity Fair spawned in its earliest days and exemplifies today.
Note: Please arrive in evening cocktail attire.
Michael Anthony, executive chef and partner at Gramercy Tavern, is one of New York City's most celebrated chefs. Winner of the James Beard Award for Best Chef: New York City in 2012, Anthony has garnered attention and praise from both well-respected critics and his fellow peers alike. After spending years in France where he was classically trained at Paris's Ferrandi culinary school, Anthony moved to New York, first working at Daniel and then March before becoming opening executive chef at Blue Hill Stone Barns where he was able to focus all attention on creating farm-to-table cuisine.
Today at Gramercy Tavern, where he has been since 2006, Anthony is known for his simple yet memorable seasonal cuisine with a strong emphasis on using local, farm-fresh ingredients. For Vanity Fair At the Table: “The Decades,” Anthony will prepare a decadent menu inspired by the trends and events of the last 100 years, highlighted by his taste and talent for balancing rich, beautiful flavor with light seasonal fare.
